Justice bites for Harvey Weinstein — who flashed a toothless smile in a Big Apple courtroom Wednesday.
The 72-year-old convicted sex offender and former movie mogul was at a hearing in Manhattan criminal court when he exposed a gaping grin likely caused by his teeth rotting behind bars.
Courtroom photos show the disgraced movie mogul sitting next to his lawyer, Jennifer Bonjean, with a missing canine and molar during a hearing about what evidence to allow in his retrial.Weinstein complained in 2022 about rotten molars that he said had become a dental “emergency” in prison. At the time, he demanded that his teeth be fixed by a private dentist because jail medics simply pull them out, leaving gaping holes in his grin. The ex-Miramax honcho — who’s 2020 rape and sexual assault conviction was overturned based on “unfair” testimony — was rolled into the courtroom Wednesday in a wheelchair, wearing reading glasses and a blue suit.
During the hearing, an attorney for Weinstein called his past #Metoo trial irrelevant.“We can take that transcript and all the judge’s rulings and throw them in the garbage,” Weinstein lawyer Arthur Aidala said. “That trial was declared illegal by the highest court in this state.”Judge Curtis Farber ruled that lawyers can’t bring up Weinstein’s past conviction — or that it was later tossed — during his retrial, which is set to begin next month.Farber also ruled that Weinstein’s attorneys can’t mention his health problems during the retrial, including a cancer diagnosis and diabetes.
But Farber will allow testimony from expert witnesses on the psychological experience of rape and assault along with memory responses to sexual assault, the judge said.
Weinstein’s lawyers also said they want to make sure the jurors selected are not aware of the previous case, which received widespread media attention.
