Rapper and celebrity Snoop Dogg is facing accusations of homophobia following comments he made about a same-sex relationship depicted in the children’s movie Lightyear. The controversy began after a clip of his remarks on the “It’s Giving” podcast was shared on Reddit, prompting a wave of criticism from users.
In the interview, Snoop Dogg recounted taking one of his grandsons to see the 2022 Pixar film, which features a same-sex couple, one of whom is a main character’s mother. He said his grandson was confused and asked, “Papa Snoop? How she have a baby with a woman? She’s a woman!”

Snoop Dogg then described his own reaction, saying he was thrown off by the question and felt unprepared to answer. “Oh sht, I didn’t come in for this sht. I just came to watch the goddamn movie,” he said. He further claimed he was now “scared to go to the movies” because they present topics he doesn’t “have an answer for.”

The rapper’s comments quickly ignited a debate on Reddit, with several users accusing him of homophobia. One user commented, “It’s only hard to explain if you’re homophobic and trying to hide the existence of gay people to your children.” Another stated the remarks were “blatantly homophobic.”
Many other users joined the discussion to argue that explaining same-sex relationships to children is not as difficult as Snoop Dogg suggested. Comments included simple explanations such as, “That kid has two moms. ‘Oh, okay.’ This is how I explain it to my small children. Super complicated.” Another user offered a potential answer: “Some women fall in love with other women. Everyone is different. We accept ppl for who they are.”
