Chris Martin joked about the viral Coldplay kiss cam moment at the band’s Wisconsin show, days after the Andy Byron scandal went viral, leading to Byron’s resignation.
Chris Martin didn’t miss the chance to poke fun at the recent kiss cam controversy that’s been hovering over Coldplay this week.
Performing at Camp Randall Stadium on Friday night, the 48-year-old singer broke the ice with a sly remark during the band’s Music of the Spheres tour stop. “We’d like to say hello to some of you in the crowd and put some of you on the big screen,” Martin told thousands of fans, according to video clips shared online.
Grinning, he added the 11-word joke, “Please, if you haven’t done your makeup, do your makeup now!” The lighthearted jab came just days after Coldplay’s Foxborough, Massachusetts show made unexpected headlines for allegedly exposing an affair.
On July 16, the band’s kiss cam captured Andy Byron, then-CEO of data company Astronomer, with his arm around Kristin Cabot, Astronomer’s HR head. The moment caught flak as Byron is married, and not to Cabot.

Martin reacted live on stage that night, telling the crowd, “Whoa, look at these two. Alright, come on. You’re OK! Either they’re having an affair or they’re just very shy. I’m not quite sure what to do.”
He followed up, half-laughing, “Holy s–t. I hope we didn’t do something bad.”
Astronomer launched an internal review on Thursday, placing Byron on leave. Over the weekend, his resignation became official.
“Andy Byron has tendered his resignation, and the Board of Directors has accepted. The Board will begin a search for our next Chief Executive as Cofounder and Chief Product Officer Pete DeJoy continues to serve as interim CEO,” the company said in a statement on social media.
‘As stated previously, Astronomer is committed to the values and culture that have guided us since our founding. Our leaders are expected to set the standard in both conduct and accountability, and recently, that standard was not met.”
“Before this week, we were known as a pioneer in the DataOps space, helping data teams power everything from modern analytics to production AI.”
“While awareness of our company may have changed overnight, our product and our work for our customers have not. We’re continuing to do what we do best: helping our customers with their toughest data and AI problems.”
Fans reacted to the statement in a plethora of different ways. One fan wrote, “It’s not just the CEO that needs to step down. You need to take action on your head of HR. ‘People leader’ my a–.”
“The way Andy Byron ducked down and out of view shows a married man’s typical feelings towards his side piece – when it came to it, he discarded her and ran off. Anyway, what about the HR woman and her employment? I bet she’s in breach of the relationship at work policy!” another penned.
A third posted, “Shouldn’t the HR Director be canned ‘resigned’ as well as her promotion is suspect.”
Byron’s exit has left Astronomer searching for a new CEO, while Cabot remains in her role at the company.
