In a heartfelt gesture of solidarity, singer Arijit Singh has announced the cancellation of his upcoming concert in Chennai following the tragic terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir. The concert, originally scheduled for April 27, has been called off in respect for the victims who lost their lives in the attack that took place on April 22.
Taking to Instagram Stories, Arijit re-shared an official statement from the event organizers, District Updates, confirming the cancellation. The statement read, “In light of the recent and tragic events, the organisers, along with the artist, have collectively made the decision to cancel the upcoming show scheduled to happen in Chennai this Sunday, April 27th.” Arijit Singh added a series of folded hands emojis to his repost, silently echoing the grief and unity being felt across the country.
The decision comes as a tribute to the 26 lives lost in the attack—25 Indian nationals and one Nepali tourist—when terrorists targeted a group of visitors in the scenic Baisaran meadow of Pahalgam. Several others were also injured, making this one of the deadliest terror incidents in the region in recent years. The incident has sent shockwaves across India, prompting widespread condemnation and an outpouring of condolences from citizens, public figures, and fellow celebrities.
In their announcement, the event organizers also assured ticket holders of a full refund. “All ticket holders will receive full refunds, and the amount will be automatically refunded back to your original mode of payment. Thank you for your understanding,” the statement concluded.
Arijit Singh’s action is not the only instance of the music industry responding to the national tragedy. Popular composer Anirudh Ravichander also postponed ticket sales for the second show of his Hukum World Tour in Bengaluru. He too expressed his sorrow on Instagram, stating, “The tragic events in Pahalgam have deeply shaken us all. Our heartfelt prayers and deepest condolences go out to the victims and their families.”
Anirudh’s post added that the ticket sales, initially scheduled for April 24, have been postponed out of respect, with the new sale date to be announced soon. “Silence and solidarity,” he wrote in the caption—words that resonated with many fans.
Meanwhile, the tragic Pahalgam incident has sparked outrage and mourning across the nation. Bollywood celebrities such as Shah Rukh Khan, Akshay Kumar, Priyanka Chopra, Kareena Kapoor, and Sara Ali Khan also took to social media to express grief and call for justice. The coordinated expressions of solidarity from artists and public figures alike reflect the emotional weight the nation carries in the aftermath of the attack.
Arijit Singh, known for his soulful voice and emotionally resonant performances, has always maintained a quiet but powerful presence in the industry. His decision to cancel the concert, despite the scale of the event and its anticipation, sends a strong message about empathy, respect, and standing united in the face of senseless violence.
In the words of the singer himself, “This has to stop.”
