For former Disney star Asher Angel, some dreams really do come true. The singer is absolutely buzzing about his new collaboration, “Rodeo,” which pairs him with none other than rap icon Nelly and brings the superstar back to his country crossover roots.
When we caught up with the singer in West Hollywood, Asher described the entire experience as nothing short of surreal. He’s thrilled that their track has successfully brought the “Hot in Herre” legend back into the country music world, a space he famously conquered years ago.
Asher revealed it was his powerhouse label team at Makasound Records—including Hitmaka, Prince Chrishan, and Princess Tuhh—who masterminded the connection. They sent the track to Nelly for his consideration, and the ‘Country Grammar’ artist liked what he heard, effortlessly adding his signature style and sending it back.
Now, all eyes are on a potential live debut of “Rodeo.” Hopes are high that the two can perform it together when Nelly’s tour rolls through Asher’s hometown of Phoenix next week.
To put this full-circle moment in perspective, Nelly’s massive, platinum-selling country hit, “Over and Over,” was released back in 2004—when Asher Angel was just two years old.
