Jets Provide Justin Fields Injury Update After Devastating Quarterback Setback

The Jets confirmed that Justin Fields suffered a dislocated toe in his right foot in just the second day of training camp, leaving fans concerned as to what is next for New York.

The New York Jets released an update on Justin Fields’ injury after the star quarterback was carted off in just the second day of training camp.

After spending one season with the Pittsburgh Steelers, Fields signed a two-year, $40 million contract with the Jets, with $30 million guaranteed. Considering the bet New York placed on the 26-year-old to right the ship, the Jets were hoping to see the star thrive with new head coach Aaron Glenn.

However, the Jets would have to wait to see what they are fully capable of, as Fields was carted off with a toe injury in just the second day of training camp. So jarring was the signal caller’s injury that ESPN’s Mike Greenberg was left “speechless” as the network cut its traditional broadcast to highlight Fields’ injury.

On social media, however, the team made sure to update fans on the situation surrounding Fields. “UPDATE: After medical evaluation, QB Justin Fields sustained a dislocated toe in his right foot and will be day-to-day. Fields avoided serious injury and significant missed time,” the team wrote on X.

The incident occurred as the team was getting acclimated on offense. After the snap, Fields threw an incomplete short pass to tight end Jeremy Ruckert and then fell down, sitting on the ground for a moment before limping off the field with the help of a trainer.

After spending time in the injury tent, the 26-year-old was carted off to the locker room. Once practice had concluded, Glenn spoke with reporters regarding Fields’ injury and what the team will do as they continue to manage the signal caller’s absence for the time being.

“Went down with toe in the right side of his foot,” Glenn began. “Listen, I don’t know the severity of the injury, but I do know it’s a toe on his right side. And listen, we have an outstanding backup in Tyrod [Taylor] who’s been in this league for around 14 years. So the leadership that he brings, listen, we’re all good.”

Glenn admitted that before he could form a proper opinion on Fields’ injury, he needed to review the film to understand just exactly what happened.

“When anybody goes down, there’s a lump in my throat,” the head coach said, per ESPN. “I hate injuries for any player. But the thing is, I want to make sure exactly what the injury is before I move forward on my thought process.”

Still, the 53-year-old expressed confidence in his team, which has the right players to keep it afloat while Fields deals with his latest injury setback.

“I think the most important part is, if anything does happen to Justin, I don’t think there’s any drop-off as far as what we want to do when it comes to play,” Glenn concluded to the outlet.

Glenn’s confidence in Fields and the Jets’ players should be good news for fans like ESPN’s Greenberg, who claimed he was speechless upon hearing the 26-year-old’s latest injury.

“I don’t know how to put into words how frustrated I am to read to you what I’m about to read to you: From New York Jets training camp, quarterback Justin Fields has been carted off the field and taken to the locker room after being pressured on an incomplete pass. He has an apparent leg injury. He walked on his own power after getting back inside the facility,” he said during a recent episode of ‘Get Up.’
