David Muir Unpacks ‘Highly Unusual’ News Story Following Trump’s Epstein Bombshell

In the latest episode of World News Tonight, David Muir revealed that he would be reporting on a “very rare” and “highly unusual” story to start off the broadcast.

David Muir kicked off the latest episode of World News Tonight with a hot-button story regarding the meeting between the Deputy Attorney General and Ghislaine Maxwell, referring to the encounter as “highly unusual” and “very rare.”

Muir led the broadcast with the story, the latest development in the ongoing saga facing the Trump administration as they continue facing calls to release the Jeffrey Epstein files.

Now, as even Republicans call the files “not a hoax” and demand that anyone involved in Epstein’s alleged crimes be “brought to justice” new details are emerging about the meeting with Maxwell, Epstein’s former longtime companion.

As his show kicked off, Muir first summarized the story as he ran through what fans could expect to hear about throughout the episode.

rom left, American real estate developer Donald Trump and his girlfriend (and future wife), former model Melania Knauss, financier (and future convicted sex offender) Jeffrey Epstein, and British socialite Ghislaine Maxwell pose together at the Mar-a-Lago club, Palm Beach, Florida, February 12, 2000.

“First this evening, the highly unusual meeting, the deputy attorney general going to meet with Jeffrey Epstein’s co-conspirator, Ghislaine Maxwell,” he said.

“The meeting today lasting six hours. She’s serving 20 years for sex trafficking. So what do both sides want out of this meeting as it comes amid pressure on the White House to release the Epstein files.”

As he then started the episode with the actual news stories of the day, he reiterated the unusual nature of the meeting.

“Good evening, and we begin tonight with President Trump and the uproar over the Jeffrey Epstein files,”

“Tonight, we have new reporting here on this very rare visit today,” he continued. “The Justice Department’s second in command traveling to Florida to meet with Jeffrey Epstein’s co-conspirator Ghislaine Maxwell, who is currently serving a 20-year sentence for sex trafficking. So tonight here, what do both sides want out of this meeting?”

As for how the meeting went, Attorney Todd Blanche did not share with reporters any details about what occurred during the six hours, only saying that Maxwell answered any and all questions she was asked.

In a statement prior to the meeting, Blanche indicated the goal was to get Maxwell to deliver any information on those who had committed crimes against victims.

President Trump has told us to release all credible evidence,” he said. “If Ghislaine Maxwell has information about anyone who has committed crimes against victims, the FBI and the DOJ will hear what she has to say.”

The meeting also came following a bombshell report from the Wall Street Journal on Wednesday.

The newspaper reported that in May, Attorney General Pam Bondi and Blanche informed the President that his name appeared in the files multiple times. While it was made clear that his name didn’t imply any wrongdoing, he followed their recommendation that the files no longer be released.

However, after campaigning on the promise they would release the files and believed “client list,” the move greatly upset his MAGA base, leading to the current meeting with Maxwell and growing calls among politicians on both sides of the aisle to release the files.
