Fury vs Usyk Rematch Set for 12 or 13 October – Likely in Riyadh
The highly anticipated rematch between heavyweight champions Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk is now being planned for 12 or 13 October 2025, according to Saudi sports adviser Turki Al-Sheikh.
Their first historic bout, scheduled for 18 May in Riyadh, will crown the first undisputed heavyweight champion in over two decades. Both fighters have signed rematch clauses, and it now appears the sequel will headline Riyadh Season’s opening events, making a return to the Saudi capital the most likely venue.
While Riyadh remains the frontrunner, Saudi Arabia has shown growing ambition to host fights globally. For instance, a Riyadh Season card is set for 3 August in Los Angeles, featuring Terence Crawford vs Israil Madrimov. Meanwhile, a major Saudi-backed card is expected at Wembley Stadium in September, potentially marking Anthony Joshua’s comeback.
The Stakes
-
Tyson Fury, 35, enters the May 18 bout as the WBC heavyweight champion.
-
Oleksandr Usyk, 37, holds the WBA, WBO, IBF, and IBO titles.
-
The October rematch is unlikely to be for the undisputed crown, as sanctioning bodies are expected to strip one or more belts due to mandatory challenger obligations.
Both fighters remain undefeated. Fury last fought in October 2024, narrowly beating Francis Ngannou in a controversial decision after being knocked down. Usyk most recently fought in August, stopping Daniel Dubois in Poland.
Originally scheduled for February, the undisputed clash was postponed after Fury suffered a serious cut above his eye during training.
The news of the rematch’s targeted date comes just after another major Saudi fight — Artur Beterbiev vs Dmitry Bivol — was postponed due to injury, signaling the ongoing volatility in top-tier boxing schedules.
