Jonny Evans has officially ended his long-standing connection with Manchester United, and his wife, Helen, has paid a heartfelt tribute as the veteran defender bids farewell to Old Trafford after more than two decades across two spells.
The 37-year-old centre-back played his final match for the Red Devils in their 2-0 victory over Aston Villa, closing the curtain on a career that included 241 appearances in United colors. His departure was confirmed alongside teammates Victor Lindelof and Christian Eriksen, as the club prepares for a summer overhaul.
Evans first joined Manchester United’s academy at the age of 10 and went on to make 198 appearances during his first spell, before stints at West Bromwich Albion and Leicester City. In a surprise return in 2023, he rejoined United on a short-term deal during pre-season, which was later made permanent after impressing the coaching staff.
Following the final whistle at Old Trafford, Evans shared a touching moment with fans — joined by his wife, Helen, and their three children. Helen later took to social media to reflect on the journey they’ve shared since first meeting in 2013.
“12 years later, 8-year break in the middle and 3 kids added to the squad… over and out OT!” she wrote. “Best fans in the world.”
Evans’ career has been one marked by resilience and consistency. With eight goals scored in United colors and a total of 537 career appearances, including 107 caps for Northern Ireland, he leaves behind a legacy of professionalism and leadership.
United fans gave Evans a warm send-off, with the stadium announcer honoring his contributions and silverware during his time with the club. He was embraced by teammates and applauded by supporters in a fitting farewell.
A club statement acknowledged his service, stating: “Jonny Evans has served United with distinction for more than a decade as a senior player, across two spells at the club.”
As Evans prepares for the next chapter, Helen’s words capture the sentiment of many: a proud goodbye to a player who gave his all for the badge.
